Why Join?
SMARTY was created by a “non-joiner” and is designed for people who find the word “networking” to be a little corny. Let’s face it – you have to do it if you’re in business, and there are fun ways to “get out there,” but could we call it something else please? In all seriousness, join for the connections, access to other business owners and the education that comes from learning from like-minds. SMARTY is based in “experiential” learning – meaning, we ask all our speakers, all our Members and all our course leaders a ton of questions about how they’re doing it, to arrive at solid answers for ourselves. It’s just more efficient than business school (and waaay more fun).
It’s simple – there’s just two levels. One is designed to give you an “all access pass”while the other is for people who can’t get to very many events but want the message board access and a few good panel discussions a year.

LA Big SMARTY Membership: The All Access Pass
Do this level if you’re likely to come to more than 4 events over the course of the year. This is for people who are great connectors, who normally don’t join networking groups but want to attend stuff where people are smart, cool, engaged and interesting. We do a lot over the course of a year, so if you can fit us into your schedule once or twice a month, this is for you.
SMART Conversations: Once a month, we meet an entrepreneur in his or her own space. Could be an office environment, retail space, studio, factory, tea salon…you name it. Business owners share their story in an intimate setting where we interview them, ask questions and find out how they’ve built their entrepreneurial “house.”
Master Events: Prepare to meet hundreds of other business owners, hear riveting panel discussions and leave with not only a giant to-do list for your business but inspiration beyond belief. Funny, irreverent, truthful and wise, our speakers pull no punches – this is real life, real business and real success.
Peer to Peer Workshops: Be a leader or just listen to one. Annually, SMARTY chooses Members of the community who share their skills in small-scale workshops we call the Peer to Peer Program. Topics range from “how to hire a publicist” to “creating a logo that sticks.”
Book Club: If you’re like us, you inhale great business advice wherever you can get it. Monthly, we take a break and talk about the book of the month. From Seth Godin to Marcus Buckingham, if you don’t talk about what you’ve learned and how it applies to your work, you’re only reading to forget. We eat. We drink. Enough said.
Online Community Board: Post anything you need – a good CPA, a dog walker, an incorporation lawyer, a copy writer, a graphic designer, someone to bounce ideas off of, a focus group, goodie bag items, massage therapist, partnership mediator…the list goes on. Use this board as a way to promote yourself, your products, services or events, and as a way to be of service to the community. No spammers allowed – we make sure of it.
LA Little SMARTY Membership: Keep Your Finger on the Pulse
If you just can’t take advantage of all our events but want to keep your finger on the pulse and get access to resources and connections without showing up for anything, this level’s for you. Many people who live out of town are Little SMARTYs.
Online Community Board: Post anything you need – a good CPA, a dog walker, an incorporation lawyer, a copy writer, a graphic designer, someone to bounce ideas off of, a focus group, goodie bag items, massage therapist, partnership mediator…the list goes on. Use this board as a way to promote yourself, your products, services or events, and as a way to be of service to the community. No spammers allowed – we make sure of it.
Two Master Events Annually: Attend two Master Events – we choose which ones – as part of this level of Membership and attend the rest for promotional prices. Master Events bring relevant, inspiring, successful entrepreneurs to the stage where war stories are shared and wisdom doubled (see above for more detailed Master Event explanation).
Two SMART Conversation Events: Enjoy a couple of SMART Conversation on us! Hear fascinating stories from business owners in their own spaces (see above for more on this series).
Big SMARTY Orange County and San Diego Membership
This SMARTY Membership is for all of our friends and fans south of Los Angeles. Being an Orange County or San Diego SMARTY is ideal for business owners who don’t live in LA but who want access to events in their own city.
The Big SMARTY Membership in Orange County and San Diego includes Master Event panel discussions, our intimate SMART Conversationseries where we interview successful business leaders in their studio, retail or office spaces, plus access to our online resourcegroup where you can ask any question (or answer one) and get the trusted answers you need. Enjoy in-person networking, onlineforums. This modestly priced Membershipcreates connections, brings fascinating stories into your life and gives women in business an authentic place to grow and dobusiness. This Membership is exclusively for Orange County and San Diego residents only.
